Mother Koala 555x510mm 2016

I have been lucky enough to do a bit of work on Koalas in my job as an ecologist and one of the most surprising things for me is how large mothers let their ‘back young’ become. A young koala is know as a ‘back young’ in the stage after it emerges from the pouch. It is not uncommon to see a Koala carrying a back young that is almost as large as it is! I based this etching on a photo I took in the wild of just that.
