'Robin Hoods' Oak' 2008

My topic for VCE Art in 2008 was the "Green Man" -the Celtic spirit that links man and nature. I worked on a range of linoplates suggesting forest groves, faces in trees and tree spirits.
This linocut is based on an old oak tree on our farm at Pheasant Creek. Apparently the tree was planted in about 1900 as an acorn that came from England. Robin Hood is one of the embodiments of the Green Man and even though I don't know if the acorn came from Sherwood forest- it may have.
The old tree was burnt in the fires but I was very pleased to see it now has some new green growth.
